Question by War: Can I swap mother boards of different style notebooks or use parts from one notebook to fix another?
My compaq presario turns on then turns off immediately. I went through some HP on-line diagnostics I was told that the mother board is grounding out. I have a dell notebook that I can use if swapping parts is an option.

Most manufacturers will not release parts to individuals, and if they did the price would be unreasonable.

If it’s under warranty use it, if not simply buy a new one

as long case is atx and is medium or larger, it will fit anything. you need to make sure there are no compatibility issues with your cpu/motherboard of course, ram is usually no problem and every mobo has pci express x16 so no worries about video card.

as far as selling computer parts you could go to ebay, for buying parts go to newegg.com or tigerdirect. Or post up a “lemonade stand” out front and start selling parts to your neighborhood for a profit of course.

one minute of video is about 8 MB on average which is pretty small. You could probably find USB drives pretty cheap on the internet for that small. I would say it would cost you roughly $ 1000 give or take a couple hundred to do what you are trying to do.
