Question by djanu: How can I help my CRT monitor to die faster?
I have 10 year old 19″ CRT monitor and it still works. I really want to purchase LCD monitor because CRT quality dropped and it sucks now. However my wife thinks we should not buy LCD because CRT is still working. Is there a way to speed up the death on my CRT monitor so we can buy a new LCD?
Thank you in advance
DJ
I tried to change refresh rate to 150MHz but it shows ‘Out of Scan Range’ message and then switches back to 85MHz.
I also tried to change resolution to 2048x1536x75MHz but again it shows ‘Out of Scan Range’ message and then switches back to 1280x1024x85MHz.

Question by Arthur: Is it bad to shut a CRT monitor on and off repeatedly?
At my relative’s house, they leave the computer on all the time but constantly turn the monitor on and off. I heard it was bad for the monitor, like it will wear it out or something. Is there any truth to this?

Question by : PCI-E Video card not fitting?
Hi– I am replacing a video card but the one I bought doesn’t fit.
It looks as though the gold stripping would fit into the motherboard but the section that screws into the case (with the plug for the monitor) is much too short for my slot.
My old video card says PCI-E on it as well, so not sure why they aren’t the same.
Here are specs if that’s helpful.
Old card: NVidia 8400gs
new card: PNY 8600gt
I would tell you the motherboard if I knew how, there is a sticker on it that says P5N32 SLI Premium. I know it is SLI ready but I am not interested in utilizing SLI.
Obviously I’m going to have to return the video card (if possible) and get a new one. I just don’t want to make the same mistake twice! What cards will fit?

Sounds like you got a “low profile” card…there designed for “mini” cases…if you don’t want to take it back you will have to find a bracket (the metal strip were the plugs are) that full ATX size with the right hole placement for the plugs…..or …check with the video card maker…they may have the longer bracket. Often the maker will have both brackets in the package so you may luck out!

Question by camarodriver682005: How can i use a normal CRT monitor with a laptop?
My laptop has a broken screen, but otherwise works perfectly fine. I have an old monitor, but when i plug it in, it shows the startup, DOS, but then shuts off– it shows everything but windows itself.
I would like to use this monitor just so i can see and get all my stuff off my laptop, but i can’t get the monitor to display what’s going on in the computer.
Can anyone help?

Well, I believe the problem may be coming from the fact the the computer copies the video output to all possible outputs on startup, then uses what it considers the primary after that (In this case, the lcd). What you may be able to do is, when the screen goes black, let it sit for a minute, so it finishes loading. Then, and I’m going from Dell experience, press Fn + F8. In your case, it may be different, but it should be Fn + (the key that says CRT/LCD). If that doesn’t work, then you may have to be logged in (assuming you have passworded your computer). If that’s the case, log in. I know that sounds dumb with a broken screen, but vista automatically goes to the password box, and xp should too, but if it doesnt, just dont touch the touchpad or mouse until it stops thinking, then move it slightly to the right and down a bit, and click. Then, type your password and press enter. If the comptuer starts thinking again, GOOD, it is logging in. Once it stops again, THEN try Fn + F8 or whatever. Good luck!

Question by John P: How do I keep my LCD monitor from streaking when I clean it?
Whenever I clean off my LCD monitor, it leaves streaks behind – not really visible, but noticeable when the monitor’s off.
I currently use special wipes for it (LCD screen wipes that I bought from MicroCenter) and a soft cloth (it’s an iMac; it comes with a cloth recommended for cleaning). Still streaks.

Question by dws3683: what cable do i need to connect a laptop to a lcd projector?
Best answer:
Answer by Will S
That would depend upon the projector, and what cables it provides/has ports for in order to connect to external devices. In my scenarios at work, all of the projectors we use have a cable that plugs into a standard monitor VGA port, if your laptop has one of those, see if your projector supports such a connection.
