Question by B.B.: Can I put an Intel motherboard in a case that is only compatible with ATX / m-ATX motherboards?
I was planning on building my own computer. I ordered an Intel motherboard and Intel processor off of newegg.com, and now they won’t fit in my case. I didn’t notice the ‘ATX / m-ATX compatible’ until it arrived earlier today. In the back of the case where the USB devices, Ethernet cord, microphone, headphone, etc. plug in, my motherboard doesn’t match up. Do I have to return this case and buy a new one, or is there a way of getting it to fit?

The new motherboard should have come with the new I/O shield. You just pop out the old one and insert the new one and everything should line up.

Question by Paul B: I have a D link DIR615 N router. How can I set up NAS using this router and a western digital hard drive?
I have not bought the hard drive yet so I’m open to suggestions but how do you get NAS (network attached storage) working on a regular router that’s connected to a cable modem and feeding a windows machine with multiple users?

Answer by GoodToGo
The way a NAS works is just like a computer. You can think of it as a harddrive enclosure with RAID controller and a simple OS. If your router is running on DHCP which dynamically assign IP address to each device connects to it, then there is really not much more for you to setup for the NAS. Setting up access on a NAS will be a totally different issue as it depends on your NAS and the file system you will be on.

So here’s topology of your network structure:

cable modem — router — (NAS, PC1, PC2, PC_n)

On your Windows machines you will be able to share the files from your NAS but mapping it through the IP address of the NAS.

Question by Corvette Boy: I need accessories for computer!?
I live in Southern Oregon, which happens to be extremely rural. I need a place where I can get computer accessories cheap and it must not be internet oriented. Thanks!

You are saying that you do not want to order through the internet, right?

If you really have to do your transactions face-to-face, you can’t get out of physically going there, by car, bike, or walking.

Many stores will ship to you if you pay shipping charges.

However, you should try ordering through the internet. I have done so too many times to remember, and I have had only one problem where the product was DOA ( dead on arrival ). And maybe a couple of times where the shipment was lost, but insurance covered that.

Question by : Confused about computer memory and USB flash drives space?
I was looking at this website: http://www.crucial.com/support/howmuch.aspx and found out that a regular computer has about 2 GB of memory. And also recently i had bought a 16 GB USB flash drive and i know that a computer holds a LOT of space so how come the usb’s dont? Sorry if this is a dumb question for some of you but im not that smart at computers so help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Answer by Bob90079
By memory, they mean RAM (Random Access Memory) which is totally different from Hard Drive space.

The average computer will have about 4gb of RAM and maybe 500gb or 750gb of Hard Drive space.

Newer computers can have more.

Your memory stick falls under Hard Drive space, as it acts as a portable hard drive.

Question by Shivan R: which is better AMD or Intel Processors also same for motherboards ( AMD or Intel )?
Looking to build a new bad ass computer currently shopping at newegg.com but if u guys know of a better reliable site let me know thanks .

Answer by epvuial
newegg is the best hands down…

Intel wipes the floor with AMD these days (it wasn’t always like that though) so get an Intel processor, I suggest a quad-core…

with motherboards it doesn’t really matter as much… your motherboard performance mostly depends on the parts that you put in it… and since Intel processors are better, then an Intel-based mobo is better too… just do me a favor and don’t buy a board that’s actually BUILT by INTEL, they are bad, get some other company like ASUS or EVGA…

Question by scruffycat: What are the primary differences between laptops, notebooks, and netbooks?
Also, which of those three would be best for primarily word-processing? And, which computer do you believe is the least expensive, yet most capable of handling primarily Microsoft Office and MS Publisher? Thanks for any answers you can give me.

Answer by Jonathan
Laptops generally have bigger screens, more storage space and more processing power than notebooks or netbooks but have a shorter battery life.

If you want to use Microsoft Office and you are going to do DTP & word processing work then you would probably be better off with more processing power, a bigger screen and a decent sized keyboard so a laptop is probably the best way to go.

On the other hand if you want something you can use on the train or aeroplane and you are going to be carrying it around a lot you should get a fairly powerful netbook as it will be lighter and easier to use in these situations.

You should go to a shop where you can actually look at the different options, feel the weights, try out the screens for the applications you are going to run, only then can you be sure you know what you are getting what is right for you.

Once you know what you want have a look for a good deal on the web.

Question by bulldoze2005: How do I properly setup my network so that client computers automatically have the printers installed?
Here is the scoop. In my school we have 3 computer labs, each with 30 computers. All of these connect to a new Dell Server running Windows Server 2003, standard edition.

The server is setup as a file sharing printer and a print server.

Before the school year, we decided it would be nice to not have to walk the kids through setting up the printer, so we logged onto the client machines locally, and added the network printers, beliving that when the students logged on, the printer would already be installed on that machine.

Turns out we were wrong. So, I logged onto a computer, through the domain, with admin access and setup the printer. Still, when students log on, there are no printers installed.

So, my question is… how do I set this up so that when a new user logs on, the printer is already installed?

Thank you!!!
