Question by B.B.: Can I put an Intel motherboard in a case that is only compatible with ATX / m-ATX motherboards?
I was planning on building my own computer. I ordered an Intel motherboard and Intel processor off of newegg.com, and now they won’t fit in my case. I didn’t notice the ‘ATX / m-ATX compatible’ until it arrived earlier today. In the back of the case where the USB devices, Ethernet cord, microphone, headphone, etc. plug in, my motherboard doesn’t match up. Do I have to return this case and buy a new one, or is there a way of getting it to fit?

The new motherboard should have come with the new I/O shield. You just pop out the old one and insert the new one and everything should line up.

Question by Silveram: What intel processors are compatible with a motherboard with a 775 socket?
Planning on upgrading processors.
the motherboard is LGA 775, and there is no box since the PC was a package deal.

Answer by Goffik
Many of them, but its not only socket type you have to look for. The motherboard has to actually support the CPU. For example, and old 775 socket board designed for P4s probably wont support a 775 socket Core 2 Duo.

Question by Amy R: Are all internal hard drives compatible with any tower?
I need a new hard drive for my HP desktop. I’m not sure what hard drive to look for, if any will fit in my tower? Help!

Answer by gospieler
It depends on your motherboard interface connection.
Normally the old computers have IDE/ULTRA ATA type of connection and the new computers have SATA type connection. Before buying the internal HD, verify your computer interface connection. For this::
• Press the windows key + R
• On the open box type “devmgmt.msc” (without the quotes) and press the OK button
The above will open windows device manager, check if you have IDE controllers or SATA controllers.
Now answering your question.
Yes all SATA hard drives are compatibles with any tower with SATA interface connection and all IDE hard drives are compatibles with any tower with IDE interface connection.
HINT: If you have an IDE interface you can install a SATA drive, but you need to install a SATA to IDE adapter or install a SATA controller card into an available PCI slot on the motherboard.
Hope this help

Question by Alex: Motherboards compatible with AMD Athlon II x4 2.6gh Processor?
I’m looking for a motherboard for my desktop computer that will be fully compatible with the “AMD Athlon II x4 2.6gh Processor”. Preferably, a list of options would be great, not just one, but that’s only a preference. Thanks in advance to everyone who responds! (nicely =P)

Answer by George
You havent provided the actual model of the CPU. However i think this is a Phenom II x4 810? (a newer one). This is therefore an AM3 chip so when you are looking for a motherboard on a site look in AMD Motherboards > AM3. This should be the general idea. AM3 is the important part. Some AM3 chips can work on AM2+ boards with a little bios update however is safer to just buy AM3 boards.

Question by John: Are RAID HDs compatible across controllers?
Also, if I buy a RAID controller card, does that mean it is definitely a hardware based controller or do some of these run mainly in software (I’m thinking something link winmodems and winprinters) ?
Best answer:
Answer by Paul
Not sure if I understand your question but I hope this helps…
ANY hardrive can be setup in hardware RAID with other hard drives. Having a hardware based RAID controller is the ONLY way to do RAID. You can do it with software but it is DEFINITELY NOT RECOMMENDED.
