I have two relatively new IDE 350gb internal hard drives I’d like to use in a NAS device. External USB drives won’t work becuase I need to easily share the files among a network even when some of the stations are off. I currently have the drives in an old PII box which is noisy, cumbersome and unreliable. I figure today’s NAS boxes would be smaller, quieter and easier to manage. Problem is I can’t find one that meets these requirements!!
Thanks for the reply Sam F. The Ifrant looks from the specs to accept only SATA drives, but otherwise it would work ($ 2k though, yikes!). It seems to me that anything retail that would accomplish what I need is hundreds if not thousands of dollars. Maybe I’m better off getting a newer/quieter bare-bones small form factor PC and calling it a day.

Hello,
Everybody will have their favorite.
Maintenance and usage will varied for each ownership.
Choose the one you like, that has the features that you want such as where the usb, hdmi and other user ports are located.
What might suite me, may not be the best for you.
The biggest factor in price is the GPU capability.
If you are not a big gamer, get one that does have a top end GPU since it isn’t a priority.
If you are a gamer, then you better get one with the best GPU that you can afford.
Usually better with more memory/ram, unless you can install your own. Thats easier than change’n a tire.
Out side of that all spec’s will vary from AMD/Intel, amount of RAM and hard drive size.
In the end it is your laptop, not mine or anyone else’s.
So hold your purchase until you need it, since they release new models over time.

I love a bargain as much as anyone and I used to love all the cheap stuff I could find on eBay, but nowadays it seems so hard to find anything cheap over there and just when we’re all finding it tougher to just pay our bills. I don’t give up so I was looking for someplace online where I could still find myself a bargain… and by accident I came across this site I never heard of before where you get rock bottom prices from police impounded stuff, I mean I was worried about scams but this stuff is actually real and I got some real cheap stuff there… it’s become my new eBay lol! Im looking for some software that will film my screen and record my voice. The software needs to be good quality, and i would prefer HD. I want the videos to be smooth. Ive tired some free software that was pretty laggy and choppy in the play back. The main use of this software will be making gaming videos. if you know of any free software that fits this that would be great, but i dont think there is so ones that cost money are great too.

There are some very good free ones…
BB FlashBack Express – http://www.bbsoftware.co.uk/BBFlashBack_FreePlayer.aspx – good screen video capture program. Captures to AVI and SWF formats. The problem with this one is it puts a halo around the screen cursor which cannot be removed.
Expression Encoder – http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=5c3c5f97-678c-4c99-a7fc-f84f320c626f – An advanced audio/video-encoding and live-broadcasting application. A huge program but the video capture is great. Captures to WMV format. The free version is good enough for most things but can only record 10 minutes at a time. The full program is $ 600 but it really is a good program.
Screen to Video – http://www.koyotesoft.com/indexEn.html – great screen video capture program. Can capture screens to AVI, SWF, FLA and WMV formats. My favorite free recorder.
Wink – http://www.debugmode.com/wink/ – A tutorial and presentation creation software. The screen capture is great. Captures to SWF format.
The most common free one is CamStudio – http://camstudio.org/ – but I stopped using it some time ago after I found it could not capture subtle gradients and even changed some screen colors. It was was seaching for a replacement for that that I chose the previous 4 as good replacements.
Camtasia – http://www.techsmith.com/camtasia/ – is just great. The reason being it can handle all sorts of screen recording – especially from commercial video which some other programs have problems with. This is not a free program ($ 300).
Fraps and Bandicam are OK, but use a lot of resources but both are less than $ 40.

I have two young kids and they can use the computer already. But I don’t want them wondering into sites they don’t need to see. I hear about software that can block certain websites or X rated material. Can anyone tell what that software is called and what is the best type to get. Thank you very much.
