Question by Talat: Where can I buy parts for LCD monitors in Australia. I want to repair my LCD monitor?
I am interested in repairing LCD monitors. The thing is that once I have diagnosed the problem, where will I find the spare parts like backlight etc. I live in Sydney, Australia

Best answer:

Answer by stu_the_kilted_scot
Most manufacturers will not release parts to individuals, and if they did the price would be unreasonable.

If it’s under warranty use it, if not simply buy a new one

Question by Testosterone Drone: What is the best Low Profile AGP video card?
My little brother is looking for a new video card, these video cards seem extremely hard to find. He’s looking for 512mb but he may have to settle for 256mb
He has a Gateway E-4100 might I add.

Best answer:

Answer by cannevercall
the best low profile AGP card i’ve found is the ATI HD 4350 512MB but it’s pretty expensive. it will run with a 250W psu (Newegg exaggerate the psu wattages).

Question by c9mnpunk: What are the differences between using Network Attached Storage as a file server, compared to using a computer
If you use the computer as the file server does that work better? Cost is not extremely an issue and size is not that important. There needs to be 100 GB of space, and only about 7 users need access to it, with all having full read/write permissions.

Please let me know which you’d recommend for a small office that is just sharing files from one computer at this point.
Essentially if you were to set up a file server for about 6 people with maybe 1 GB of info on it, everybody has same access rights, would you choose NAS, the cheaper alternative, or set up a computer.

Best answer:

Answer by far_impressions
If any kind of security is an issue i would not use Network Attached storage if everyone has access. I personally would just go with a network to share info. But it depends on how much and how loarge the documents you need to share are.

Question by Drea: Looking for small/mini laptop with DVD/CD optical drive?
I am computer shopping and getting a bit frustrated!

I need to find a small laptop – preferably under 15″ – that has an optical drive. I know I can get a tiny laptop/netbook and buy an external optical drive, but that’s not practical for my traveling work situation.

Any suggestions would be welcome! icon smile Looking for small/mini laptop with DVD/CD optical drive? Thanks

Question by Sean F: which external drive connection is faster at transferring data?
USB
Firewire 400 or 800
Esata
Ethernet NAS 100baseT
Ethernet NAS 1000baseT

I have an esata drive attached to my computer but have the ability to attach a usb or firewire drive to my computer or a usb or NAS drive to my router and was wondering which one is fastest at file transfers. I am most interested in the usb or NAS drive attached to my network as this would allow access to files if my computer is off or has to restart.

Best answer:

Answer by Mercuri
eSATA will provide the fastest transfer rate, followed by Firewire.

Question by A Person.: How to choose the right LCD monitor for gaming?
I am going to be using the LCD monitor with my Xbox 360 and I am having difficulties on what I should look for.

I can’t seem to figure out what specs I am looking for. Can anyone tell me about which contrast ratio, vertical/ horizontal refresh rates, resolution, and brightness I should look for on an LCD monitor?

Also would it be better with HDMI or no? If possible can you also list a few monitors you would recommend?

Best answer:

Answer by hotzelj
HDMI is good, but expensive. DVI will give you the same result for a lot less.

Refresh rates are going to be about the same for every brand. However, some top of the line have 240 Hz rates – very good.

Resolution: 1920×1200 is HD widescreen.

Contrast of 1000:1 or better.

Response: 5 ms or less

Dot Pitch: 0.28 or less

Brightness: 300 cd at a bare minimum, get the highest.

Question by clarabel_s: Can I use an external hard drive to start my desktop without an internal hard drive?

Best answer:

Answer by keith s
Yes if your BIOS supports booting from a USB device.. You will have to hit f2 at boot up and check boot sequence to see if there is an option to boot from USB device.. IF there is then install Windows on your EHDD and set the path in your boot.ini to your external drive and set boot from USB device in BIOS..
